Broadvision announces a major re-design for The Angle

Los Altos, CA, March 3, 1997

Broadvision, the leader in personalized technology for the Internet, today announced the launching of a major re-design of THE ANGLE, their unique, free personalized guide to the Web.

Initially created to demonstrate the power and versatility of Broadvision's One-To-One suite of Internet personalization tools, as well as to provide a turnkey content database for co-branding with Web publishers, THE ANGLE has become a popular resource for busy netsurfers who are overwhelmed with the task of finding sites that provide both the content and viewpoint that matches their interests.

THE ANGLE tailors itself to the personal tastes and attitudes of each individual user, delivering both Website recommendations and original content based on a simple, non-invasive user profile. It also gives users a choice of graphic styles and color palettes so they can further customize it to create a comfortable environment that reflects their personal sense of aesthetics.

While The Angle was launched just six months ago, Broadvision felt a re-design was in order since its popularity with the public had taken it beyond being a showcase for their software tools. Taking a characteristically insightful approach to the re-design effort, Broadvision made the loglical assumption that no one understood the site's requirements better than the people who worked with it every day. They turned the project over to THE ANGLE's editorial staff and gave them carte blanche with all design and content decisions. Three weeks and a lot of overtime later, the editors came back with a new angle on THE ANGLE.

But they didn't settle for just putting a pretty face on the interface.

"We've expanded the content to make it more 'zine than machine", explained Managing Editor Jean Kiser. "Broadvision's smart technology is still there, but we've added more columns and special features like Soul Surfing - a tongue-in-cheek take on celebrity fascination with a very California twist".

There was a twinkle in her eyes as she described how their "staff cyber-channeler and former UNIX programmer, Zorba the Geek" contacts the spirits of the rich and famous to learn what sites they think are cool.

"We've also added a "Best of the Best" section that gives users instant access to the sites we've picked as the top choices in categories like Reference, On-line Investing and Games. Another new feature we think our users will have fun with is Tidbits from the Aether, an ongoing collection of some of the clever and amusing literary gems our editors' find in their e-mail boxes".

"Of course, our main focus is still to guide our users to the best the Web has to offer. Our constantly expanding database of thousands of brief, informative Website reviews together with our 'Look Before You Link' preview capability will will make it a breeze to find the sites they want without wasting their time or crashing their browsers".

We've made the most of Broadvision's powerful personalization software and created a great place for people to begin their online adventures. Whether you're a fast-track broker with Back Bay attitude, an inquisitive cybermom with a computer in the kitchen, or a high-wired codeslinger from Multimedia Gulch, THE ANGLE will take you where you want to go and keep you entertained along the way.
