Larry Hines

Larry Hines is one of this season's few admittedly gay candidates for the presidency. He asks the question "Is America Ready For An Openly Gay, HIV-Positive President?" Formerly a Libertarian party candidate, Larry is now running as an independent.

Hines served in the United States Marine Corps from 1983 to 1987, achieving the rank of non-commissioned officer and, more importantly, gaining what he considers practical experience in military and government affairs. As a result of his service, Hines states that his administration will, by January 1, 2002, withdraw all American troops from foreign soil and focus the training of military personnel in the art of defense. He also advocates the withdrawal of the United States from the United Nations, saying the U.S. should not participate in any "world government."

Hines also advocates the privatization of education, believing that it should be up to individuals and their states of residence to determine the best course of education for students. The first step in Hines' privatization would be to completely cut education from the federal budget. By the way, Steve Forbes - despite your gaudy claims to the contrary - you weren't the "first presidential candidate in U.S. history to announce his campaign on the Internet." That would be Larry Hines, thank you very much, who beat you to the punch by at least three months.
