James W. "Jim" Wright

Okay, so he looks like your high school math teacher, but Jim Wright thinks America needs his leadership. Wright is an Independent from Texas who first ran as a write-in candidate in '92. His campaign website is extensive, with links to numerous essays and articles about independence, constitutional rights and the law, most of which appear to have been written by Wright himself. It's difficult to actually determine his positions on key issues as both the web site and the essays are staggering under a load of rhetorical catch phrases. There is much railing against corruption in governement, against lawyers and those who would interpret constitutional law for their own ends. Wright would like to champion the poor and middle class who are being oppressed by big government forces. He is clearly in favor of campaign finance reform and repeatedly makes the point that he would like campaign contributions.

As near as we can tell, Jim Wright is a staunch conservative who opposes gun control and would like to run all the corrupt politicians out of town on a rail, even though that would make things pretty lonely in Washington. He also seems to want the Federal government to scale back its influence on states and individuals while staunchly upholding the Constitution. On the other, somewhat contradictory hand, he's in favor of free medical care, a position that definitely falls on the liberal/socialist end of the scale.

He succinctly sums up his attitude regarding the media by saying that, "ONE THING THAT WOULD PREVENT A LOT OF ARGUMENTS WOULD BE IF EVERYONE WOULD JUST REMEMBER THAT REPORTERS ARE PROSTITUTES...IN THE EXACT DEFINITION OF THE WORD."

Gee, we feel a little left out - no one has solicited us for "dates" lately.

- JS
