A
Field Guide to Political Parties
Not
counting the Demicans and Republicrats, how many parties can you
think of?
So
far, we've found more than 100 political parties, and there are
probably a few we've missed. All of the parties other than the
big two are referred to as "third parties", even the
ones that are pretty far down on the scale of probability. Some
of these third parties are serious contenders, some not so serious,
and a few are definitely playing out there in the fields of weirdness.
As to which are which...well, that all depends on where you're
coming from.
Our
field guide to America's political parties will give you our take
on what they're all about, a glimpse at their platforms, and a
reasonably objective assessment of their chances in the real world.
We
haven't finished writing the descriptions for all of the parties
yet, but we're working on them (along with all the other bits
we haven't quite finished) and should have them completed soon.
The ones we've covered are in red
- the others are in blue and link
directly to their website.
The
"we" who are writing these party descriptions are: Hallie
Arnold, bdurfee, Joy Schulenberg, and yrs trly, Robert Arnold.
Attention
Party Bosses:
If you feel we didn't give your party a fair shake, let us know.
We'll be happy to correct any factual errors and publish your
rebuttal to our somewhat subjective assessments.
