Such
lofty goals, such high ambitions: A political
party that believes party affiliation
should have no meaning and a candidate
should be evaluated and voted on by merit
alone. There should be a rousing band
of political non-conformists rallying
behind this simple, yet revolutionary
beliefÉ but what is the actual Meritocratic
party? Alas - a dusty, echoing, empty
Yahoo! Club with a few hopeful but fading
messages scratched onto the walls. Even
our Meritocratic host of the party, Staphylococci,
seems to have passed on to another political
body.
But
we really like their party logo that looks
like a Boy Scout merit badge.
OFFICIAL
PLATFORM STATEMENT
FROM THE OFFICIAL WEB PAGE
"Every
political party has a fraction of members
who are the most qualified, most intelligent,
and most reasonable. This upper echelon
of politicians simply deserves to be in
office before others, regardless of popularity
or opinion. These individuals, whether
they know it of not, are members of an
elite group of leaders known as the Meritocratic
Party. It is time, as an enlightened nation,
to put our trust and our country in the
hands of these people."
THE
DARKHORSE2000 FISHY-EYED ASSESSMENT
If
onlyÉ We like to imagine what election on merit would do to
rid the government of the crippling plague of mediocracy, partisanship,
and porkbarrels, but we're not likely to see it coming from
this quarter. And that's a shame.
